Don’t finalise your team, until line-ups have been confirmed.
The beauty of the English Premier League and Champions League matches are that the team line-ups are always announced at least an hour or so before kick-off. That should be more than enough time to review your team and find those last minute bargains. And last minute bargains are the key!
More often than not, you will find yourself stuck with only a few £million left to spend but two spaces in your team still to fill. An impossible challenge in FanDuel, even if it’s just a goalkeeper and defender required. What is almost always guaranteed is that the 220 players that lined up last week will not be the same as those that line up this one. Be it injuries in the warm ups, last minute changes of heart by managers or just tactical changes, it’s usually quite easy to find a cheap defender or goalkeeper that’s been hauled in for that week as cover for some reason.
A great example is Bournemouth in GW12. With Boruc injured in came Federici who duly delivered a clean sheet and five saves on his debut appearance for the club this season. At £4.9M you won’t find a cheaper starter in the game but until line ups were announced he wasn’t on the radar.
Similarly, Nathan Ake was making his first appearance back after injury, having not played since the third week of the season. The on loan utility player was drafted into the Cherry’s line-up last minute and was over £1M cheaper than any other Bournemouth defender. Ake duly went on to score, make 15 clearances and score a total of 42 points – a huge total for a defender – and repaid the faith for those that waited until the last minute to check the line-ups.
